Most movies 🎥 are about someone facing a big circumstantial obstacle.
They get lost in the jungle 🌴 Their house gets taken 🏠 They’re wrongly imprisoned ⛓️ They fall off a cliff ⛰️ And we love watching them claw their way back to victory. They hustle. They persist. They outsmart the villain. And in the end, they win. That’s a satisfying story. Because we admire the courage it takes to fight what’s outside. But what if the battle is inside? What if the real obstacle isn’t the jungle, or the villain, or the loss-- But the belief: 🌀 “I’m not capable.” 🌀 “It’s too late for me.” 🌀 “I don’t know what I want.” 🌀 “I’ll never figure it out.” These thought and feeling blocks are invisible—but they’re so much harder to unwind than the tangible ones. Because to overcome them, you have to challenge your own brain. You have to say: 🚫 “That thought I’ve rehearsed for years? It’s not true.” 🚫 “That story I tell myself? I’m letting it go.” 🚫 “That fear I’ve been avoiding? I’m ready to face it.” And that creates a lot of internal resistance. It’s uncomfortable. Vulnerable. Exhausting. But it’s also the most noble kind of fight. 📿 In Islam, we call this jihad al-nafs—the struggle against the self. The Prophet ﷺ said that this internal struggle is greater than the physical battle on the field. Because it’s harder to fight the voice in your own head than the enemy in front of you. So many Muslim women I work with believe their problem is circumstantial: “My kids are little.” “My husband doesn’t support it.” “We’re in a tight season financially.” But when we work together, we find that what’s really in the way is internal: Fear. Doubt. Guilt. Confusion. Thought errors. And when they address those, they suddenly find solutions to their circumstances. Because when your thoughts are aligned, you’ll find a way. But when your thoughts are in the way, no perfect situation will feel like enough.
