4/16/2025 You don't owe anyone your old selfSometimes the hardest part of inner transformation is embodying it outwardly—especially when the people around you keep reminding you of who you used to be.
Friends and family might not mean any harm, but when they say things like, “Since when do you do that?” or “This isn’t like you…” —it’s easy for your brain 🧠 to retreat. To shrink. To revert. Even when you know you’ve changed for the better. One of the best ways to solidify your transformation is to meet new people—online 💻 and in person—and introduce yourself as the version you are becoming. Because they never knew the “old” you. They don’t expect you to stay the same. They will take you at your word. And that makes it so much easier to take yourself at your word too. I remember in undergrad, I kept to myself. Just classes, study, go home. I didn’t attend events, wasn’t part of any campus clubs. But when I started law school, I decided to begin again. New city. New people. Clean slate. From day 1, I was the person who knew everyone—faculty, students, admin. I was in clubs, leading initiatives, winning competitions. I became the opposite of who I’d been in undergrad. And it was easy to do… Because no one had any old expectations of me. If someone from college had seen me, they probably would’ve been surprised—like, “Wow, you’ve really changed.” And even though they wouldn’t have meant anything by it, my brain would’ve gone: “Hmm… maybe this isn’t really you… maybe it’s safer to just go back to what they know…” But I’ve learned: You don’t owe anyone your old self.🚨 Allah (SWT) is Al-Muḥawwil—the Turner of hearts 💞 He allows us to grow 🌱 To shift. To become. So honor that. If He’s changed something inside you… Make space in your life for people who only know this new version. And watch how it becomes easier and easier to embody it fully 🌟 In my coaching practice, internal transformation is where we start—but it doesn’t stop there.
