2/11/2025 Why Being “Too Nice” Isn’t Always NiceSometimes we think being overly accommodating is a good thing. But here’s the truth: it can come from a place of needing people to like us, to be pleased with us — and that’s not a good place to be.
Islam teaches us to seek the pleasure of Allah, not people. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever seeks Allah’s pleasure at the expense of people’s displeasure, Allah will be pleased with him and will cause people to be pleased with him. And whoever seeks to please people at the expense of Allah’s displeasure, Allah will be displeased with him and will cause people to be displeased with him.” When we’re fixated on people’s opinions, we end up bending, compromising, and even watering down the way we serve. But when we act as vessels for sincere service — solely for the sake of Allah — we stay solid in our purpose and true to the mission He gave us. That doesn’t mean we should be harsh or rude. It means we show up with sincerity, strength, and intention, without needing validation from anyone but Allah. That’s where true peace and impact lie.
