1/15/2025 Who do you think you are?Ever tried to follow a dream or pursue a goal, only to hear your brain 🧠 snap at you, “Who do you think you are?”
It’s a thought 💭 that creeps in whenever we step out of our comfort zones, even if the goal is good for us and would make us better. Our brain loves familiarity, so anything new—even a positive change—feels like a threat. This is why one of the tools ⚒️ we use in coaching is who before how. Most people start by asking, “How do I achieve this goal?” But the first step isn’t about action; it’s about identity. Who is the version of you that achieves this goal? • What are her habits? • What does her day, week, and month look like? • How does she talk, carry herself, and spend her free time? • Who does she hang out with, and what does she read, listen to, or watch? When you get clarity on who this version of you is, you can work on becoming her. And when you become her, you achieve the goal. As Imam Ibn al-Qayyim said, “Do not belittle your soul, for Allah has created you for great things.” We are meant to aim high, to grow 🌱and to transform ourselves into the best versions of who Allah (SWT) created us to be. But here’s what most people do: They jump straight to how and try to action their way to success. They start strong, but when consistency fades, they feel lazy, unmotivated, or think the goal wasn’t meant for them. What’s really happening? Their brain doesn’t believe they’re the kind of person who can achieve the goal. Without that belief, it’s easy to quit. Instead, when you build the new version of yourself first and act from her mindset, the brain sees the goal as achievable. Your actions become consistent, sustainable, and ultimately successful. If you’re ready to step into the version of you who makes her dreams happen, I’d love to support you. Email me to schedule your free consultation call.
