3/31/2025 When Growth Happens in SilenceNot all growth is visible. Some of the most profound transformations happen when no one else can see them—when you’re deep in the work, stretching yourself beyond your old limitations, and shifting how you see yourself and what you’re capable of.
I’ve gone through these “cocoon phases” multiple times in my life: • 🏫 Senior year of high school – I had already secured my college acceptance early, so I focused on stretching myself beyond academics, becoming more outgoing and engaged. • 📚 College in three years instead of four – That “extra fourth year” became another cocoon phase, a time to explore, learn, and figure out my next steps. • ⚖️ After law school – Instead of rushing into work, I took a few months to travel, reflect, and expand my understanding of myself and the world. Each time, it felt like I was retreating from the world—but in reality, I was doing some of the hardest, deepest work of my life. I was redefining who I was, increasing my capacity for what was possible, and preparing for my next chapter. These phases scare people. They worry they’re not “doing enough.” But every single time, I emerged with new energy, new clarity, and a new direction that wouldn’t have been possible without that period of deep work. Your cocoon phase is hard, but it’s not stagnant. It’s preparing you for something greater. Don’t fight it—lean into it. If you’re in a cocoon phase right now and trying to figure out your next steps, I’d love to help. Book a free consultation, and let’s explore what’s possible for you.
