6/1/2025 The Real BattleI hosted an in-person workshop for a small, intimate group of Muslim women yesterday.
It was scheduled for just one hour. But we ended up going for two full hours—and not one of us noticed the time ⌛️ That’s how deeply engaged and connected we all were. We dug into the powerful difference between a circumstance and a thought—and how often our brains trick us into believing our thoughts are facts. One of the women even said, “It really feels like my brain is tricking me.” And it does. We explored the tug-of-war between the soul—our true essence that naturally longs for connection to Allah and purposeful living—and the brain, which is wired for fear, comfort, and familiarity. One participant shared how this internal battle came to a head when she converted to Islam. Her soul won. Allah guided her to the truth. But that inner war? It was real. Another participant had tears flowing as she realized she’s been holding on to a thought from childhood: “You are a bad kid.” Even though she never did anything “bad,” always followed Islam, and thought she had moved on… Her brain had stored that sentence in the background for decades. It showed up in self-doubt. In exhaustion. In strained relationships with her extended family. Using a simple coaching tool—the Model, I call the math of the mind—we uncovered the real battle wasn’t with her family. She was arguing with herself. And that argument was spilling into her relationships with others. This is the work of changing what is within ✨ And the transformation these women experienced in a group setting?
