That's not why you procrastinate

“I’m just a procrastinator.”

No, you’re not.

Procrastination isn’t a flaw in your character.

It’s not your personality.

It’s resistance.

And resistance is your brain’s way of protecting you from what it perceives as danger ⚠️

One of my clients once told me, “I work better under pressure.”

She thought that’s why she procrastinated. But when we unpacked it, we found two deeper truths:

1️⃣ First, the way she had to complete her work didn’t match how her brain naturally operated.
She’s a phenomenal listener and speaker—but her work required a lot of reading and writing. That mismatch created tension. So her brain avoided the task altogether.

Once she understood that, we explored how she could get the same work done using her strengths: by listening to material, voice-noting ideas, talking things out first, and then organizing written pieces from there.

2️⃣ Second, growing up, she had internalized the belief that the only time she could produce results was when she was under intense pressure. Her nervous system was trained to equate high stress with productivity. Comfort felt wrong. Ease felt unearned.

So she’d wait until the last minute—not because she was lazy, but because her brain thought pressure was the secret ingredient to her success.

But the cost was steep: headaches, stomach pain, chronic fatigue. Her body was screaming for a different way. Yet she kept pushing. For years.

When we finally exposed the false narrative behind her procrastination, we were able to start rewriting it—gently, intentionally.

And that’s what I want for every woman reading this.

What if your procrastination isn’t a problem… it’s a signal? 🚨

A clue about how your brain is trying to protect you—even if it’s doing so in a way that’s hurting you.

Ibn al-Jawzi said,
“Know that procrastination is a thief of time, so beware of it.”

But I’ll add: Procrastination is also a messenger.
And when you listen with compassion instead of shame, it can lead you straight to healing.

Let’s look at what’s under your procrastination—and what’s possible on the other side.
