11/27/2025 Thanksgiving DayThanksgiving on the surface: food, family, gratitude.
Underneath it: a history of genocide and land theft repackaged as a holiday. Settler-colonial projects are experts at this — erasing people, rewriting stories, turning stolen land and displacement into “celebration.” As a Palestinian, I see the similarities very clearly. I come from a village in Palestine that now has only one gate — one entrance and one exit — controlled by the occupation. Entire communities living with their freedom on a switch. And here on Turtle Island, many Indigenous communities live under systemic confinement too — suffering from poverty, inadequate housing, and loss of access to their own land, resources, and restricted in practicing their traditions. So on days like today this is a moment to remember. A moment for each of us to choose — to learn the truth, unlearn the myths we were handed, and use whatever platform or purpose Allah gave us to stand for justice, dignity, and the truth of people everywhere. Because oppression looks the same, whether it’s in Palestine, Turtle Island or anywhere else— and what we choose to do matters. Comments are closed.
