4/25/2025 Purpose over ParalysisIt feels impossible to separate the pain in our hearts from the work in our hands.
What’s happening in Palestine, Yemen, Lebanon, Sudan, Congo and many more places isn’t just hard to watch. It’s devastating. And in the middle of that devastation, many of us are still trying to show up for our work. Still trying to serve. Still trying to lead. Still trying to hold the weight of this world and move forward in it. You can carry pain and still do powerful, purposeful things. Not by pushing it down. Not by “compartmentalizing.” But by allowing yourself to feel. Fully. And deciding, on purpose, who you want to be in the middle of it. You can hold space for deep, painful emotion and take intentional, committed action. Not to distract. Not to numb. But because the work you’re doing matters. From an Islamic perspective, we are taught that grief and action can coexist. That the heart is allowed to break, and the limbs still commanded to act. That we are responsible for using what Allah has given us—our voice, our wealth, our skills, our time—to serve His creation, especially in times of hardship. Look at the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ After losing Khadijah (RA) and Abu Talib—his strongest emotional and social support—he was grieving deeply. That year was so heavy, it’s known as ‘Aam al-Huzn—the Year of Sorrow. And still, with his heart raw and vulnerable, he traveled to Ta’if to invite people to Islam. He was rejected, insulted, and stoned until he bled. And what did he say in his du’a? “If You are not angry with me, I do not mind.” This is what it means to feel pain and keep walking. To be heartbroken and devoted. To be fully human and fully in service. Next week, I’m hosting a special workshop on navigating the pain of Palestine while trying to show up for your life, work, business and dreams. If you want to attend, Email me your email address and I’ll send over the Zoom details. [email protected] You don’t have to choose between feeling it fully and being devoted to doing the work. You can do both. Salam 👋🏽, I’m Meha, a life & purpose coach focused on empowering Muslim women to live more fulfilled lives and achieve success on their own terms. Comments are closed.
