6/12/2026 Not the future you imaginedA hard part of adulthood is realizing that not every future you imagined is the future you’re meant to have.
Sometimes a truth gets revealed. A relationship isn’t what you thought it was. An opportunity doesn’t work out. Someone shows you who they really are. And in a moment, the future you had been mentally living in disappears. Most of us think the pain comes from the truth itself. But much of our suffering comes from arguing with reality and mourning the story we created about what should have happened. Clarity is never the enemy. The sooner you know what’s true, the sooner you can stop spending your energy building a future that was never available to you. The truth may hurt. But confusion hurts longer. False hope delays decisions. Reality creates momentum. Every unveiling contains mercy, even when it arrives wrapped in disappointment. When something hidden becomes clear, it is a protection and guidance. It may be Allah redirecting you away from a path that looked good to you but was not good for you. The challenge is allowing yourself to grieve the future you thought you would have while still trusting the One who knows the future you cannot see. Feel the sadness. Feel the disappointment. Feel the uncertainty. Don’t rush past it. Emotions are meant to move through us, not become permanent residences within us. Then ask: “Now that I know the truth, what becomes possible from here?” Because the truth didn’t destroy your future. It simply removed the version that wasn’t yours. And while that can be painful, it is also something to be grateful for. A painful truth today is better than years spent investing in an illusion.
