In Surah Al-Mu’minun, Allah (SWT) describes the qualities of the true believers—those who are successful. One of those qualities? They are focused and intentional in their actions.
“Certainly will the believers have succeeded: They who are humbly focused in their prayer.” (23:1-2) Success, in this life and the next, comes from deliberate action—knowing what you want, aligning it with your values, and committing to the process. It’s not about aimlessly chasing goals that society imposes on you. It’s about defining success on your own terms and then moving toward it with clarity and confidence. One of my clients experienced this firsthand. She had dreamed of working in the nonprofit sector, but when it didn’t work out, she pivoted to teaching. Over time, she convinced herself that she had tried everything and that teaching was her only option. But deep down, she wasn’t satisfied. When we worked together, we uncovered the real issue: her belief that trying again wasn’t worth the disappointment. Her brain offered her the thought, “Why bother?”—not because she truly had no options, but because it wanted to protect her from potential failure. The truth? She had many options. What she needed was to become intentional about her goals—not just choosing from a place of defeat. So first, we uncovered her purpose: • What kind of work did she truly want to do? • What did she want her life to look like? Once we had clarity, we set the intention to start networking and seeking aligned opportunities. She learned that trusting in Allah means putting in the effort and leaving the results to Him. We are responsible for the work; Allah is in control of the outcome. And when we trust Him, we no longer fear “wasted effort” because we know nothing is ever wasted in His plan. Our only responsibility is to show up with intention every day. If you feel stuck, unsure, or like you’ve “tried everything,” let’s talk. You might just need a shift in perspective.
