7/13/2025 Listen to yourselfMost of us were taught to listen to everyone but ourselves.
Parents. Teachers. Professors. Bosses. Even well-meaning friends. You were rewarded for following directions. For doing the “right” thing. For fitting the mold. But here’s the problem: When you spend your life listening to others instead of yourself, you often end up burned out, unmotivated, and wondering why it all feels so off. Even when your life looks “fine” on paper. When I coach Muslim women, this comes up again and again. They don’t know how to listen to themselves. And if they do hear something from within… They don’t trust it. Not because they’re weak or confused. But because they’ve spent years outsourcing their decisions to others—thinking that was the noble, smart, or safe thing to do. Your brain is a pattern machine. It wants certainty and validation, not truth. So when a whisper from within doesn’t fit the familiar mold, your brain immediately rejects it. That’s why you keep spinning. Not because you don’t have answers, but because you don’t trust what you already know deep down. Our fitrah (innate nature) was created to guide us. Allah says, “And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it and inspired it with [discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness…” (Qur’an 91:7-8) But if we’ve been taught to distrust our fitrah, we confuse fear for guidance and silence the part of us Allah made to lead. You can relearn how to listen to yourself. And more importantly—you can rebuild trust with yourself so you actually act on what you hear. This is the work I do with my clients. If you want support on that journey, I offer free consultations so you can see if coaching is the right fit for you.
