12/19/2025 ExaggerationsOne of the sneakiest things the brain does?
It wildly exaggerates how much time, effort and money it will take to go after what you want. I was coaching a client yesterday and her brain offered her this thought: “What if I work day and night, spend so much money and effort and it still doesn’t work?” So we slowed it all the way down and actually looked at the facts. Time ⏳: She’s in the healthcare field. We had already decided she’d spend one hour a day on her purpose. That’s it. Not day and night. One hour. And she’s already been doing it for a week. In just one week, she’s made tangible, measurable progress she can point to. Her brain was acting like this was some endless grind when the evidence said otherwise. Effort 💻: When we coached on this, she realized something important. That one hour is actually the most enjoyable part of her day. She looks forward to it. She wakes up excited knowing she’ll get to work on it later. So “so much effort”? Not true. Money 💰: Her current cost to work on her purpose? $0. Yet her brain still threw money into the mix. Why? Because the brain is obsessed with avoiding wasted time, money, and effort even if it has to make things up to do it. This is why we don’t just listen to every thought our brain offers us. We examine them. We test them against reality. We coach on them.
