5/18/2025 Discipline v. DesireA lot of women think they lack discipline.
They tell themselves, “If I could just be more disciplined, I’d finally work out regularly. I’d launch that idea. I’d be consistent in my work.” So they try to force themselves. Tap into masculine, push-through energy. Hustle. Grit. Grind. And maybe it works for a few days… Until it doesn’t. And then they quit. And then they shame themselves for quitting. “See, I knew it. I’m just not disciplined.” But that’s not what’s happening. It’s not that you’re not disciplined. It’s that you’re trying to force yourself into action without your brain understanding why. Your brain needs a reason that feels good. It needs to want it—not fear it. Let’s say you want to get healthier. If your reason is, “I hate how I look” or “I want to fit into that dress,” that’s a reason rooted in shame. And shame doesn’t sustain change. But what if your reason is: “I’m actually a healthy person. I just got sidetracked with life. And now I want to return to who I truly am—a woman who cares for and honors her body.” That shift in identity fuels you from a positive place. It turns discipline into desire. Suddenly, you’re not forcing yourself to work out—you want to. Because it feels aligned with who you are. If your motivation is coming from fear or shame, no amount of discipline will save you. You have to clean up the thoughts underneath. And that means: 🔹 Identifying the real root of your resistance—not just the surface thoughts 🔹 Understanding where those thoughts came from 🔹 Unwinding them and replacing them with ones that are true, helpful, and aligned with your values This applies whether you’re trying to build a habit, launch a project, have a hard conversation, or show up differently in your relationships. The most sustainable discipline comes from aligning your actions with who Allah created you to be. If you’ve been trying to push yourself into something and keep falling off—maybe it’s not a discipline problem. Maybe it’s time to find your desire again.
