8/17/2025 Destined or not?Sometimes I hear people say:
“If it’s written for me, it’ll happen. If not, it won’t.” And while that’s true in belief, it often gets misused in practice. Here’s the thing: you and I never received a sealed book 📕 in the mail detailing every event of our life. We don’t know what’s written. That means your job is never to sit back and wait. Your job is to take action—and then trust Allah with the result. Even the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ lived this balance between qadr (destiny) and free will. When there was an outbreak of plague in Syria, Omar ibn al-Khattab (RA) decided not to enter the land with the Muslim army. Someone asked him: “Are you running away from the decree of Allah?” He replied: “We flee from the decree of Allah to the decree of Allah.” SubhanAllah—what wisdom. Omar knew Allah’s decree includes both the event and our choices. His responsibility was to act with wisdom and effort while trusting that whatever unfolds is by Allah’s will. Here’s the mistake many of us make: We use “if it’s meant to be, it’ll happen” as an excuse for inaction. But that’s not how it works. You have to put in the effort first. You have to show up, try, move forward. Allah reminds us in the Qur’an: “And that man can have nothing but what he strives for.” (53:39) The result? That’s Allah’s decision. But the effort? That’s always on you. And here’s the thought I want to leave you with: what if what’s written for you is exactly on the other side of the effort you’re avoiding? ✨ This is where coaching comes in. It helps you stop holding yourself back, lean into action, and trust Allah with the outcome.
