That’s one of the brain’s favorite lies. Your brain isn’t obsessed with control because control actually creates safety. It’s obsessed with control because certainty reduces perceived threat. Your brain is constantly making predictions about what will happen next. When life feels uncertain, the amygdala, the brain’s threat detector, becomes more active. Your prefrontal cortex starts working overtime trying to analyze, plan, anticipate every outcome, and eliminate every variable. It feels productive. It feels responsible. It even feels wise. But often, it’s just anxiety wearing the mask of preparation. The need to control is an attempt to avoid uncomfortable emotions like disappointment, rejection, failure, or uncertainty. We believe if we can control every circumstance, we won’t have to experience those feelings. But the more you try to control what was never yours to control, the less control you actually have over the one thing that is yours—your own mind. I ask my clients: “What feeling are you trying to avoid by controlling this?” Because it’s never really about the circumstance. It’s about the emotion you think the circumstance will create. Your next level requires becoming someone who can make decisions and move forward without needing certainty first. Confidence isn’t created after you know the outcome. It’s created because you’re willing to handle whatever outcome comes. Allah never asked us to control the results. He asked us to strive with excellence and place our trust in Him. Tawakkul isn’t passive. It’s taking responsibility for your effort while surrendering the outcome to the One who actually controls it. When you stop trying to carry what belongs to Allah, your nervous system finally gets permission to rest. Peace isn’t found in controlling life. It’s found in trusting the One who controls it. If you’re exhausted from carrying the weight of trying to manage every outcome, I’d love to help. We’ll uncover the thought patterns keeping you stuck and help you build a calmer, more resilient mindset rooted in your purpose and faith. Email [email protected] to book your free consultation call.
