5/2/2025 Are you mean to yourself?Decolonizing yourself isn’t just about systems.
It’s about the stories you’ve internalized. One of the subtlest forms of colonization is when your own mind becomes your oppressor. When the harshest voice you hear is your own—critical, shaming, never enough. That’s not your nature. That’s not your voice. That’s a voice shaped by centuries of being told your way, your worth, your wisdom, your identity weren’t good enough. But Allah says: “Do not wrong yourselves.” (Qur’an 2:231) Oppressing yourself—through shame, self-neglect, or relentless criticism—is still oppression. And He commands us to step away from it. Healing begins by noticing: How do you speak to yourself? Would you speak to a friend the same way? Decolonizing your mindset starts with compassion. It begins by replacing the colonizer’s harsh voice with the voice of mercy—the one that aligns with who you are as a servant of Allah. The one that tells you: You are worthy. You are seen. You were created for a purpose. Lean into your identity. Reconnect with your Creator. Reclaim the narrative. If this resonates with you, I’d love to hold space for you.
