10/16/2025 Are you coachable? Are you coachable?
1. Coachability begins with humility When someone starts poking around your brain, your defenses🛡️may go up — your instinct is to protect your own identity and preserve comfort. I know this was my first coaching experience and my coach helped me understand what was going on. But because I knew I wanted to change, I wanted something different in my life, I opened myself up to the coaching and I really did accomplish the results I wanted 🌟 2. Resistance is your signal 🚨not your enemy Resistance, defensiveness or anger often arise when we feel unsafe — our brain’s natural protection mechanism. Islam encourages self-reflection (muraqabah). When you feel resistance, instead of rejecting it, pause and ask: Which fear or identity is triggering this? Let it be data, not a stop sign 🛑 3. Value every coaching moment, not just the big ones Shift from being a resistant client to becoming a value-receiving machine— turning every interaction into potential growth 🌱 In Islam, every moment is an opportunity for rectification. We are reminded to constantly seek knowledge, guidance and correction. 4. Align your intention with growth No matter how good the coaching, if your heart isn’t aligned, the impact is limited. Your coachability doesn’t depend on the coach — it’s rooted in your openness and willingness to do the inner work. Prophet Mohammad ﷺ taught: “Actions are but by intentions.” Before you engage in coaching, set your niyyah: I am open to learn, refine my character, benefit others, and draw closer to Allah through this work. 5. Turn discomfort into invitation When feedback stings, lean toward it. Embracing the discomfort and staying open is the way to transformation. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Wondrous is the affair of the believer: for there is good for him in every matter, and this is not the case with anyone else except the believer…”— discomfort might be a hidden mercy. Invite it in, examine it and grow. If you feel stuck in resistance, identity walls or just unsure how to allow yourself to change — I’d love to help. If you’re ready to move from resisting feedback to embracing transformation this work is for you. Let’s grow — in excellence, in humility, in service.
