4/7/2025 Remember who you areThe violence we’re witnessing today in Palestine 🇵🇸 is not isolated.
It’s the latest chapter in a long history of settler colonialism—one that began with white Europeans and has spanned continents, bodies, and minds. From Turtle Island (now called the U.S. and Canada), to Aotearoa (New Zealand), to Australia—whose true identity is rooted in its First Nations, like the Yolngu, Wiradjuri, and Noongar peoples, each with names for the land long before “Australia” existed. To Argentina, whose name was given by Spanish colonizers chasing myths of silver. Before that, it was home to Indigenous nations like the Mapuche, Guaraní, and Qom, who never called it “Argentina.” Africa bears scars of colonial renaming. Take South Africa—a geographical label created by European settlers. What was it called before? There wasn’t one unified “South Africa”—because it was home to sovereign nations like the Zulu Kingdom, the Xhosa, the Khoisan, the Tswana, and more. And yet today, the world doesn’t blink when a white person says they’re South African. Just like they don’t question white people claiming nativity to land they call America, New Zealand, or Australia. This normalization of settler identity is one of the most insidious tools of colonial violence. And the tragedy is how deeply that violence has crept into our psyches. So many in the Global South—stripped of memory, history, and self-trust—feel helpless. We start believing the lie: that because colonizers dominate by force, they must also be superior in mind, culture, and purpose. But that’s the greatest myth colonialism ever sold. This is not the time to despair. We grieve, yes. But we must also act. We must resist. We must remember who we are. To see the colonizer for who they truly are, we must reclaim who we truly are. Rooted in purpose. Guided by faith. Driven by dignity. If you want help reclaiming your voice, your power, and your role in this world—Email me. [email protected] Let’s rise.
