An inside look into a coaching session

“I don’t know what I want from my life.”

That’s what my client said during our first coaching session after her free consultation.

She’s a mom of four.
She has a master’s degree.
She left her career to raise her kids—and now finds herself wondering who she is beyond that role.

⬇️Here’s a small part of our very first session.

Client: cuz I’m alright with myself not love or like
Me: why don’t you love yourself?
Client: I don’t know I feel like I can do more in this life but I’m being lazy mentally spiritually physically
Me: where does this not doing enough come from?
Client: because it’s not a lie I can do it I just don’t want to I don’t want to spend time on it I push it off
Me: self worth - which is the source of self love- doesn’t come from what we do.
Client: yes but it’s all stupid it’s all mental gymnastics yes it means a lot to me to be good to my family but it can be better
Me: what can be better?
Client: my relationship with my kids, my husband, what I want to do with myself what I want to actually be
Me: all of this won’t be fixed until you fix your relationship with your self
Client: I don’t like not knowing what I want from my life
Me: of course you don’t, no one does, but the work to figure that out starts with step 1- figuring out your relationship with yourself. Because your trying to use your brain to solve the problem, but the problem is your brain. So your trying to use the thing that’s causing your problem to resolve it.
Client: yes but it’s not at the same time
Me: the “yes but it’s not at the same time” is the resistance your brain is offering you because I’m challenging it.
Your soul is the truth nor your brain.
Your brain is loud and talks a lot.
We’ve all been taught growing up to trust our brain. But the brain is not a truth seeker at all. The brain is fearful, critical, wary, seeking efficiency over truth always, seeking to confirm itself, regardless of whether the thing is right or wrong, it chooses a belief and keeps looking for ways for it to be right. That’s what your using right now. That’s why you will stay confused as along as you keep depending and trusting your brain to help you here. You have to start unwinding your thoughts one at a time. For you we have to start with why you think you’re just alright can’t like or love yourself. The second phase to to listen to your soul and that comes through when you quiet your brain. We will quiet your brain once we unwind all the thoughts it’s offering you that your believing wholeheartedly.
Client: What should I do?
Me: let’s dive into where this “I think I’m alright” came from and once we find the root of this we will be able to figure out the next step, this is only our first session so one step at a time.
Client: ok let’s do it.
